Benno Schachtner

Benno Schachtner (born December 1, 1984 in Illertissen ) is a German opera singer ( countertenor ).

Life

He received his vocal training as a boy soprano with the " Ulmer Spatzen ". Numerous competition successes in the category duo and solo singing at Jugend Musiziert accompanied his childhood. After his voice broke, he began to play the organ ( Christian Weiherer ) and studied Catholic from 2004 to 2010. Church music at the Detmold University of Music in the organ class of Gerhard Weinberger . Since 2007 he has been the choir manager of the Baroque Academy of the HfM Detmold (a selected ensemble of students specializing in singing). While still studying church music, he began studying singing at the HfM Detmold in 2009 as a countertenor in Heiner Eckels' class , which he then attended from 2010 to 2012Schola Cantorum Basiliensis continued with Ulrich Messthaler in the master’s degree.

Benno Schachtner sang the title role in Georg Friedrich Handel'sOrlando ” at the Landestheater Detmold while still a student , which was followed by various laudations and awards. Subsequently, engagements took him to the Erfurt Theater , the Berlin State Opera (under René Jacobs ), the Braunschweig State Theater , the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music and the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon.

The highlight of his young career so far is the award of the Bach Prize winner of the XVIII. International Bach Competition Leipzig 2012, in which he was awarded the 2nd Prize and the Orchestra Prize of the Leipzig Baroque Orchestra. He received the Bavarian Art Prize 2016.
