Benno Ure

Benno Ure (born September 4, 1955 in Linz on the Danube ) is an Austro-German pediatric surgeon , university professor and author.

Life

Ure studied medicine at the University of Vienna and the University of Cologne . He received his training as a pediatric surgeon in the children's hospital of the city of Cologne, and his training as a general surgeon at the 2nd chair for surgery at the University of Cologne. From 1997 to 2000 he worked as a pediatric surgeon at the Clinic of the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Since 2000 he has been full professor of pediatric surgery at the Hannover Medical School and was entrusted with the management of the Pediatric Surgery Center in Hanover in 2009. Since 2012 he has been the deputy member of the presidium for health care at the Hannover Medical School.

He deals with the development of innovative surgical procedures, especially in the field of minimally invasive surgery . He performed several types of procedures for newborns for the first time in the world. In addition to neonatal surgery, special clinical focuses are surgery of the esophagus, lungs and intestines. Since 2016 he has been the coordinator for esophageal diseases of the European Reference Network ERNICA of the European Union. His research achievements include the evaluation of new technologies, immunological aspects of pediatric surgery and new health care concepts for children.

Ure is an honorary member of the American Pediatric Surgical Association (APSA), the Académie Nationale de Chirurgie Française, the Iranian and Egyptian Societies for Pediatric Surgery and an Associate Member of the Dutch and Austrian Societies for Pediatric Surgery.

From 1985 to 2001 he was a member of the Cap Anamur / German Emergency Doctors Committee and took over the chairmanship of the board from Rupert Neudeck in 1998 , which he held until 2001. He was active in more than 20 war and disaster areas and was a member of the Humanitarian Aid Coordinating Committee of the Federal Foreign Office. Ure is a co-founder of the Humanitarian Assistance course at the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum . He initiated university collaborations, including with institutions in North Korea , Egypt and Yemen . In 2014 he received the plaque of honor from the Lower Saxony Medical Association for his commitment to humanitarian aid.

Together with Rainer Schmitz he wrote the book Keys, Töne and Tumulte  (Siedler Verlag 2016) and How Mozart got into the ball (Pantheon Verlag 2018). Ure founded the Ensemble Forgotten Notes , which performs music from the first half of the 20th century.
