history
The first inhabitants of the administrative district were the Bargawata , a group of Berbers in the Maghreb . The Almohad Dynasty appealed to the year 1140 to the Arabs of Banu Hilal and Banu Sulaym, at her side in Al Andalus in the southern Spanish conflict in the battle of Alarcos to participate. As a reward, they were promised land. The lands that were awarded were mainly in the plains in north-east Morocco near the Atlantic (Doukkala, Chaouia, Sraghna etc.) and the Western Sahara.
In 1907 the French Army established a military base here, Camp Boulhaut, as part of a campaign against Morocco . A rebellion against the French occupation of Morocco began in Ben Slimane.
The establishment of the base was followed by the establishment of a military settlement, which subsequently expanded along the road leading to Bouznika. During the French Protectorate , the area belonged to the autonomous sub-region of Casablanca . It was then divided into three civil districts: Chaouia North (Casablanca) Chaouia Center ( Berrechid ) and Chaouia South ( Settat ).
