Benvenuto Terzi

Benvenuto Terzi (born September 28, 1892 in Bergamo ; † October 28, 1980 there ) was an Italian composer and concert guitarist .

Benvenuto Terzi was the youngest of six children of a pharmacist. He learned the profession of accountant, which he practiced for over thirty years. He also taught himself to play the guitar as an autodidact . In the early 1920s he made his first appearances at the Royal Conservatory in Milan and at the Donizetti Theater in Bergamo, and later he also appeared abroad, including in Switzerland and Belgium. In 1925 he was the first winner of the International Guitar Competition of the magazine "Il Plettro". In 1934 he and a friend founded the magazine “La Chitarra”.

Terzi wrote several guitar schools. One of his most important works is the arrangement of the Metodo completo per chitarra by Ferdinando Carulli , which Ricordi first published in 1955 . He composed around 70 musical works and arranged pieces by Frédéric Chopin , Pjotr ​​Iljitsch Tchaikovsky , Johann Sebastian Bach , Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert for the guitar.

Correspondence with well-known guitarists such as Andrés Segovia , Emilio Pujol and Miguel Llobet were found in his estate .
