The Berberidopsidales are a small order within the flowering plants (Magnoliopsida). Only two families belong to it , the Aextoxicaceae and the Berberidopsidaceae . They have a disjoint area , only found in Chile and eastern Australia .

They are evergreen trees or climbing bushes . The leaves are simple. Stipules are missing. There are stone fruits or berries formed.
The two families are morphologically very different and were only combined in one order after molecular biological analyzes. The species also show strong variations in many characteristics within the families. Spiral and whorled flowers as well as one-, three- and five-fold gynoeces can be found .
Systematics
The Berberidopsidales are the sister group of the clade from ( Santalales ( Caryophyllales + asterids )). It only includes two species-poor families:
