Berberis jamesiana is a species of the genus barberries ( Berberis ). She comes from the northwest of the Chinese province of Yunnan . Berberis jamesiana grows as an impressive deciduous (deciduous) shrub up to 2 meters highwith purple-colored young shoots. The branches are covered with long thorns, the leaves are thick, up to 10 centimeters long, strongly veined, egg-shaped, with entire margins to finely toothed, olive-green on top, bluish-gray underneath, red in autumn. In late spring, 20 to 40 golden yellow flowers appear on up to 10 centimeters long hanging grapes. The berries are spherical, up to one centimeter in diameter, are white at the beginning and are scarlet red when ripe. Berberis jamesiana is used as an ornamental shrub.
