Berendsen plc was an international group headquartered in London, listed on the London Stock Exchange (BRSN) and included in the FTSE 250 benchmark index . Sales in 2014 were £ 1,038 million

Berendsen employed around 16,000 people, was the leading textile service company in Europe and the market leader in textile supply in several countries. The group was active in 16 countries and operates 156 large laundries across Europe (as of December 31, 2014).

The group was divided into four sections:

  • Rental work ( workwear )
  • Cleanroom, mat service and washroom hygiene ( facility )
  • Hotel and catering service ( hospitality )
  • Healthcare ( Health Care )

Berendsen had production facilities in Germany , Scandinavia and Great Britain for its own workwear collections, protective equipment and surgical textiles.

history

Godfrey Davis founded an automobile trade in 1920 , and his company soon became a major rental and leasing company. In 1959 he went with his company on the London Stock Exchange. In 1987, Davis acquired Sunlight Services , a leading laundry company founded in 1900, for £ 8 million . He had previously sold his car rental business in 1981. In 1991, Godfrey Davis sold three of four of his auto dealerships and changed the name to Davis Service Group .

In 1996 it came to the corporate takeover of Spring Grove Services from the Granada Group . This also leading laundry company was operating on the Irish and German markets after it, among others, at the site Meßkirch the company in 1991 Haussler had, that was strong in the area "Hotel linens" adopted.

The Berendsen Group employed around 3,000 people in Germany . The company was divided into the business areas “Health Care” with the headquarters of Berendsen GmbH in Glückstadt in the Steinburg district in Schleswig-Holstein and “Industry” with the headquarters of Berendsen Textilservice GmbH in Hamburg . Berendsen was one of the leading textile service providers in Germany in the hospital sector.

Other countries

Berendsen Textil Service A / S was the market leader in Denmark.
