Ostico is an East Timorese place, Aldeia and Suco in the administrative office of Vemasse ( municipality of Baucau ).

The place Ostico is in the east of the Sucos, at an altitude of 722  m . Here is the primary school of Sucos, the Escola Primaria Ostico .

In Ostico there are 1206 inhabitants (2015), of which 638 are men and 568 women. The population density is 45.0 inhabitants / km². There are 221 households in the Suco. Around 95% speak the “mountain dialect” of Waimaha , which is one of the Kawaimina languages , as their mother tongue . A small minority speaks Tetum Prasa , a few residents Idaté , Makasae and Makalero .

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Ostico had an area of ​​28.35 km². Now it is 26.80 km². The Suco is located in the northeast of the administrative office of Vemasse. To the north is the Suco Vemasse , to the west, across the Manuleiden River , the Suco Caicua and south of the Suco Uato-Lari . To the east, Ostico borders the Baucau administrative office with its sucos Bucoli , Triloca and Gariuai .

The larger settlements are all in the east of Sucos. In addition to Ostico, these are Ueobai ( Ucobai ), Haunau and Bahamori .

In the Suco there are the three Aldeias Bahamori , Haunau and Ostico .

history

At the end of the 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s there was a prisoner and resettlement camp near Ostico for FRETILIN supporters and residents who were captured by the Indonesians and who were to be resettled for better control.

politics

In the elections of 2004/2005 was Afonso da Costa Freitas elected Chefe de Suco and in 2009 re-elected. In the elections in 2016 won Poligarpo da Silva .
