Caicua is an East Timorese Suco in the administrative office of Vemasse ( municipality of Baucau ).

geography

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Caicua had an area of ​​22.99 km². Now it is 18.55 km². The Suco Caicua is located in the center of the administrative office of Vemasse. To the west and north is the Suco Vemasse , to the east are the Sucos Ostico , Uato-Lari and south of the Suco Ossouala . The Manuleiden River runs along much of the eastern border .

According to the Diploma Ministerial n. 199/09, the two Aldeias Bahamori and Caicua are located in the Suco .

Current maps do not show any major towns in the Sucos area.

The places Caicua and Bahamori are located in Suco Vemasse, near the place of the same name , while a map drawn between 2003 and 2004 extends the border from Caicua to the two places in Vemasse.

Residents

77 people live in Caicua (2015), 35 of them are men and 42 are women. The population density is 4.1 inhabitants / km². There are 22 households in the Suco. The list of polling stations in the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2007 gives a total of 487 voters for the Suco Caicua in the polling station of the Escola Primaria Caicua elementary school . 55.56% of the population are under 15 years old, 12.96% over 60 years. All men can read, but a third of the women are illiterate. Almost 80% of the population name Waimaha as their mother tongue. Over 10% speak Galoli , around 5% Tetum Prasa and a few residents speak Habun as their mother tongue.

history

In 1979/80 people from Caicua and other settlements in the hills around the village of Vemasse were forced to relocate to Natar Ulun , three kilometers away from Vemasse. The reason was the isolation of Caicua, which is why the inhabitants were difficult to control by the Indonesian occupiers. Indonesian soldiers found it difficult to get into the region. The residents of Caicua were suspected of collaborating with the FALINTIL resistance fighters .

In the elections of 2004/2005 was Geraldo Romaldo da Silva elected Chefe de Suco and 2009 and in 2016 re-elected.

economy

81.82% of the population keep farm animals. In 2010 there were 52 chickens, 15 pigs, 15 sheep, 13 goats, 3 horses and 4 water buffalo. 45.45% of households in Caicua are arable. 35% grow rice, about 18% each coconuts, coffee and fruit, just under 10% each manioc, corn and vegetables. The residents only use firewood for cooking. Access to sanitation and safe drinking water is a major problem. 18.2% of households have a telephone, just as many have a radio. 9.1% each have a television or a refrigerator. No resident owns a car, motorcycle or bicycle.
