Ossouala ( Ossoala , Osso-Ala ) is an East Timorese Suco in the administrative office of Vemasse ( municipality of Baucau ).

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Ossouala had an area of ​​65.14 km². Now there are 85.94 km². The Suco is located in the southeast of the administrative office Vemasse. To the west is the Suco Vemasse , to the north the Sucos Caicua and Uato-Lari and northeast of the Suco Loilubo . In the east lies the administrative office Venilale with its Suco Fatulia and in the south Ossouala borders on the municipality Viqueque with the Sucos Liaruca (administrative office Ossu ) and Bibileo (administrative office Viqueque ). The river Vemasse and its tributaries Suni and the Dau, which rises in Suco, flow through the north . The Mori , a tributary of the Laleia, flows along the southern border . In the Suco there is also a mountain with a height of 1083  m , which is also called Ossouala .

The larger settlements are in the northeastern tip of the Sucos, near the border with Loilubo. These are Caidenulale ( German  mulberry tree ), Hoineuai ( Hoi Neo Ua ), Lolinuno ( Lolinunu ) and Uma Ana Ico ( Umaanaico ). There is also a medical station and two primary schools here. One of them is the Escola Primaria Catolica Ossoala .

In the Suco there are the five Aldeias Caidenulale , Hoineuai ( Hoinawai ), Lolinuno , Uaicnassa and Uma Ana Ico .

Residents

1067 inhabitants live in the Suco (2015), of which 564 are men and 503 women. The population density is 12.4 inhabitants / km². There are 207 households in the Suco. About 75% speak the "mountain dialect" of Waimaha as their mother tongue , more than 10% Kairui and 10% Midiki . All three belong to the Kawaimina languages. Less than 5% speak Tetum Prasa and some residents speak Idaté , Baikeno and Adabe . The last three languages ​​are not traditionally spoken in the region.

history

The region between Mount Ossouala and Monte Mundo Perdido was until 1978 a nest of resistance of the FALINTIL against the Indonesian invaders.

In 1978, 120 FALINTIL fighters who had escaped the encirclement in Natarbora were captured by the Indonesians in Ossouala. On September 23, 1983 ten residents disappeared after they were abducted by the pro-Indonesian militia Team Lorico and Hansip . They were suspected of having met FALINTIL leader Xanana Gusmão .

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections , João Sebastião Ximenes was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections won Tomas Ximenes dos Reis and 2016 Filipe Zeferino Correia .
