Uma Boco ( Umaboku , Umaboco , Uma Boco , also Natarbora , Matarbora ) is an East Timorese place and Suco in the administrative office of Barique ( municipality of Manatuto ).

Uma Boco is the administrative seat of the Barique Administration Office.

The place forms a settlement center of several small villages on the eastern border of the Sucos. In addition to Uma Boco, there are Fehuc Rin ( Fahikrin , Fehucrin ), across the border in neighboring Suco Aubeon, the villages of Buburlolon (with the local preschool), Wemaubodak and Waicadi (with the regional secondary school and a helipad) and in Suco Fatuwaque ( Abatoan ) Localities Camedar and Ranac .

Uma Boco is located in the interior of Timor at an altitude of 122  m , about 84 km as the crow flies southeast of the state capital Dili and about 16 km south of Barique .

Three national roads meet in Uma Boco. To the east there is a road to Viqueque (48.8 km by road), to the west one to Betano (48.5 km) and to the north a road to the municipal capital of Manatuto (85.2 km).

Before the 2015 regional reform, Uma Boco had an area of ​​41.45 km². After the regional reform it was 85.49 km². In 2017, the Suco Sikone-Diloli was separated from UMa Boco. Since more detailed information is still to be found here, the following information relates to the time up to 2017.

A bridge leads to the west over the Sáhen River , which forms the border with Suco Clacuc ( Fatuberlio administrative office , Manufahi municipality ). Its tributary Laniara forms the north-western border to Suco Manehat . In the northeast, Uma Boco borders on the Suco Fatuwaque and in the east on the Suco Aubeon. In the south lies the Timor Sea . The Naan Kuro lagoon begins to the east of the coast .

In addition to the settlement center around Uma Boco, further west lies the village of Camedar , which is not identical to Camedar in Suco Fatuwaque. In the Suco there is a community health center, three primary schools and one preparatory school for the secondary level. A college for agriculture was founded here during the Indonesian occupation, but it was destroyed in the wave of violence in 1999 around the independence referendum . After the Indonesians left, the university was rebuilt. Today 160 students study here.

In 2015 there were 1696 people in the Suco (2015), of which 934 were men and 762 women. The population density is 19.8 inhabitants / km². There were 284 households in the Suco. 80% of the population name Tetum Terik as their mother tongue. More than 3% speak Habun , almost 3% Tetum Prasa , 2.5% Mambai , minorities Makasae , Tokodede , Galoli , Bunak , Baikeno , Idaté , Kairui , Lakalei , Kemak , Fataluku , Atauru or Midiki .

Uma Boco is divided into the two Aldeias Halibur (until 2017 Aimeta Laran ) and Fehuc Rin .

The area in south Timor is fertile but is regularly hit by floods.

history

Uma Boco was a retreat for the FALINTIL in 1976 , who fought against the Indonesian invaders. Here she founded a base de apoio , a resistance base that offered refuge for refugees from Manatuto, Same , Dili, Liquiçá and Ermera . The base was later destroyed by the Indonesians.

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections , Manuel da Costa was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections won Feliciano Baptista .
