Bergenia Ligulata is a species of the genus Bergenia ( Bergenia ) within the family of Saxifragaceae (Saxifragaceae). It thrives in the Himalayas and is rarely grown in gardens.

description

Differentiation from other types

Bergenia pacumbis is very similar to the Kashmiri bergenia ( Bergenia ciliata ), from which it can only be distinguished with certainty by the leaves: The leaf blade is hairy only on the edge, but not on the surface, and the leaf is evenly rounded at the end, never extended into a blunt rounded tip.

Vegetative characteristics

Bergenia pacumbis is a perennial, herbaceous plant and reaches heights of up to 17 centimeters. All leaves are alternate in a basal rosette and are divided into a petiole and a leaf blade. The petiole is 3 to 10 inches long or slightly longer. The leaf blade is circular, broadly ovate or broadly obovate with a wedge-shaped or rounded base and a rounded upper end, without a tip. The leathery leaf blade is not eyelashed on the surface, it is smooth above and below. The leaf margin is completely or slightly serrated, it is ciliated by stiff bristle hairs. The stipules form a leaf sheath basal on the petiole with a ciliate hairy edge.

Generative characteristics

The upright, about 7.5 centimeters long inflorescence is zymoid branched. The flower cup, which is covered with glandular hairs, has five sepals and five petals . The sepals are spread out, broadly ovate and leathery. The rounded petals are white or pink, they are gradually narrowed at the base into a narrow base (nail).

Occurrence

In China, Bergenia pacumbis occurs in the Tibet Autonomous Region and in the Daxue Mountains in Yunnan . Other sites are in Afghanistan, in the Swat Valley in Pakistan, in Nepal , Bhutan , Sikkim as well as in Assam and Kashmir in India.

Bergenia pacumbis is given from crevices and in the undergrowth of oak and pine forests. It grows in the mountains, at altitudes from 1300 to 3200 meters.

Taxonomy

It was first described in 1820 by Nathaniel Wallich as Saxifraga ligulata , this name is an invalid younger homonym of Saxifraga ligulata Murray. It was understood in the revision of the genus by Peter Frederick Yeo as the form of the Bergenia ciliata forma ligulata and can be found under this name in numerous flora works . Other synonyms for Bergenia pacumbis (Buch.-Ham. Ex D.Don) CYWu & JTPan are: Bergenia himalaica Boriss. , Saxifraga ligulata var. Densiflora Ser. , Saxifraga ligulata var. Minor Wall. ex Ser.
