Bergianska trädgården
The trädgården Bergianska is the botanical garden of Stockholm , located on Lake Brunnsviken in northern Djurgården in the area Frescati in Stockholm. The entire complex has been under monument protection as Byggnadsminne since 1993 .
history
The Bergianska Botaniska trädgården has its origin in a garden called Bergielund , the brothers Bengt and Peter Jonas Bergius middle district of the 18th century in the current Stockholm Vasastaden had created. After her death in 1771, they donated the property to the Royal Academy of Sciences and the Bergian Foundation . According to the foundation, a manager with the title Professor Bergianus should head the garden. The garden was to serve as a nursery and botanical test facility. In 1885 the botanical garden moved to its current location on Brunnsviken.
buildings
At the beginning of the 20th century, various new buildings were erected, including an orangery for tropical plants (today a café and exhibition), as well as buildings for staff, library and offices. 1899–1900 the pretty little Victoria greenhouse was built , a domed structure made entirely of glass and iron, for water lilies , especially the giant water lily Victoria regia . The largest new building was added in 1995, the Edvard Andersson greenhouse . Andersson was an industrialist and in 1936, after his death, he had given the Academy of Sciences a will for a greenhouse, mainly for plants from the Mediterranean region .
The park
Large parts of the botanical park are laid out according to the biological relationship of the plants and contain many trees and bushes from the northern hemisphere. Within a protective fir hedge there is a large garden with kitchen plants and herbs. The Japanese Dam was built for the 200th anniversary of the Bergian Foundation in 1991 . The park has been part of the Ekoparken National City Park since 1991 .
