Bergschiffmühle Bad Düben

The Bergschiffmühle is a ship mill from 1686 at the foot of the castle in Bad Düben .

history

The mill was first mentioned in 1686 as the “ ship mill on the Muldestrohm ” near Schwemsal . Originally the ship mill belonged to the alum mine, today's Bad Dübener district Alaunwerk, and was therefore called Bergschiffmühle, an abbreviated form of mine ship mill. Until 1905 it served as a grain mill on the Mulde with two German grinding courses and one pointed course. In 1905, a new floating power plant with 110 volts direct current was built , and the grinding mills in the farm of the miller Paul Griehl were driven by an electrical line. Another renovation in 1922 and 1923 enabled a transmission drive to the newly built mill building on the banks of the Mulde. The Mulde flood on July 10, 1954 destroyed the transmission and the fence of the mill. After the mill was fitted with an electric drive again in 1955, mill operations could be resumed. By heavy ice conditions on the dump in 1956 led to further destruction, followed by the mill set to the trough. From 1964 to 1967 the mountain ship mill was secured and rebuilt in the former moat of Düben Castle and was ceremoniously put into operation on October 6, 1967 as a technical monument . On August 13, 2002 the Bergschiffmühle was completely in the water due to the flood of the century . In 2002 and 2003 it was rebuilt in the moat of Düben Castle with the old gear parts in the state of construction from 1905. Since the 10th German Milling Day in 2003, the large paddle wheel has been turning by means of an electric motor on special occasions.

drive

Today, the Bergschiffmühle stands as a technical monument approx. 50 m next to the Mulde river at the foot of Düben Castle and is therefore driven by an electric motor instead of water power on special occasions . The paddle wheel is also driven.
