The Bad Dübener post mill is a listed historical post mill from the year 1840 in the Saxon spa town of Bad Düben in the district of northern Saxony . Originally built in Glesien near Schkeuditz, the mill, which was restored in the mid-2000s, is now north of the Schleifbach in the immediate vicinity of the Bad Dübener Kurpark in the area of the historic Mühlenhof at the Bad Dübener Obermühle .

history

The original location of the mill was in today's Schkeuditz district of Glesien . The historic building was erected here in 1840. At that time, Johann Christian Böhme was a master miller in the mill. Flour was ground in the single-thread mill until 1960; in the end only crushed. In 1962 it finally went out of service. The last owner was Erich Voss.

After almost 40 years of inactivity, the outside of the mill was badly affected by the weather. Expansion work at Leipzig / Halle Airport ultimately made it necessary to relocate the post mill around the turn of the millennium, which was now a listed building. With the support of the District Office in Delitzsch, the facility went into the care of the Museumsdorf Dübener Heide association , which was founded in 1999 and which had previously settled at Bad Dübener Obermühle, to transform the location in the form of a historic mill yard as a tourist destination with cabaret, culture, environmental education, To establish school projects and regional marketing in the Dübener Heide .

After the mill was subjected to an extensive restoration by the Dutch mill builder John de Jong in 2005 and 2006, it was able to go back into operation as a foam mill in summer 2006. Today it contains around 70 percent of its historical building fabric.

The area around the mill, like that of the neighboring Obermühle, is used for various events that are organized by the supervising association. On these days, the post mill can usually be visited.

In addition to the historic post mill, there are four other mills in the city area. In the immediate vicinity of the post mill is the upper mill , first mentioned in a document in 1434 , once the top of three water mills operated on the Schleifbach.

Another post mill is located in the Tiefensee district . This mill was originally built in 1847 on the district of Delitzsch . It has been at its current location since 1900. Shut down in 1953, it is now sporadically operated as a foam mill.

A so-called Bergschiffmühle can be found near the city center at Düben Castle in the historic castle garden . This ship mill, which dates from the 17th century, was operated on the Mulde leading through Bad Düben until 1956 . Moved to its current location in the 1960s, it was reconstructed in the early 2000s and returned to its original condition from 1905.

Another watermill is the old Düben town mill from the 16th century . Like the upper mill, it once had oil and fulling mill aisles and a board cutting mill. This mill has been owned by the Schüßler family since 1904 and is still in commercial operation to the present day.
