Berit Jung

Berit Jung (* around 1980 in Dresden ) is a German jazz and improvisation musician ( double bass , voice) and author who also takes up elements of songwriting and poetry.

Live and act

Jung first began studying psychology at the Free University of Berlin . After a few semesters she moved to the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin , where she majored in double bass (jazz / popular music). There she received lessons from Martin Lillich , Marc Muellbauer , Jiggs Whigham and Georg Graewe, among others . In addition to studying music, she worked at the Berlin crisis center , where she accompanied people in crisis situations. Workshops with Mark Dresser , Barre Phillips and John Taylor followed as well as singing and speaking training with Annette Goeres.

Jung also writes his own texts, poems and stories. She belonged to Kathrin Lemke's band Jazzexlamation , with whom she recorded two albums. With the band Gleichwiederda she can be heard on the album Kurztrip . Furthermore, she was or is active in groups such as Keke, Musik in Mö Möbel, Halb Sechs, Tru Cargo Service or Wasteland Green , but she also appears solo; she sings, speaks and accompanies herself on the double bass , partly supported by a loop station . She also toured in Spain, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.

In the field of freely improvised music, Jung worked with Almut Kühne , Hannes Bauer , Matthias Schubert , Barre Phillips, Simon Jakob Drees, Heiner Reinhardt, Johannes Schleiermacher , Lothar Fiedler and Michael Walz, among others . She also worked across genres with artists from different fields such as painting ( Helge Leiberg ), dance ( Julia Galas ) and video art ( Julia Wandel ).

She is also active as a theater musician. At the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin, she completed further training in “ Elementary Music Education ”; since then she has also been working in various institutions with integration children . The Moritz Cartheuser Trio and the band Gleichwiederda , of which she is a bassist, are award winners of the Berlin Senate's studio competition.
