Kathrin Lemke
Kathrin Lemke (born September 27, 1971 in Heidelberg ; † January 22, 2016 in Berlin ) was a German jazz musician and music teacher. She played the alto saxophone , bass clarinet and flute .
Life

Lemke wanted to become an accordionist as a child because she was very fascinated by the music of the Roma that she heard on vacation, but first received piano lessons. She came to jazz through concerts by the US Army Big Band. At the age of 13 she switched to the alto saxophone. After she had already undertaken several concert tours to England , Hungary and Israel in school, she first studied German , political science and musicology from 1990 onwards . From 1993 to 1999 she completed her studies at the Frankfurt Musikwerkstatt , which she completed in 1999 with a diploma as a professional musician and instrumental pedagogue. In 1998 Lemke founded her own formation called JazzXclamation , which released four CDs by spring 2011 . Since 2009 she has also led the Sun Ra tribute band Heliocentric Counterblast , with which the musician recorded two CDs for Enja / Yellowbird . With her project "My Personal Heimat" she turned thematically to melodies between German songs and hits, as everyone who grew up in Germany probably knows. Kathrin Lemke succumbed to cancer at the age of 44.
