Berit Nesheim (born January 28, 1945 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian director and screenwriter .

life and work

Berit Nesheim grew up in Bergen . In Oslo she studied languages, literature and psychology at the university. She mainly worked for Norwegian television , mostly for TV series. In the 1990s, her successful portraits of teenage girls, produced as feature films, made an important contribution to the revitalization of Norwegian children's and youth films . In addition to several feature films, she has also directed other Norwegian television productions. For the Norwegian films Sonntagsengel ( Søndagsengler ) from 1996 and for Evas Auge ( Evas øye ) from 1999, Nesheim worked as both director and screenwriter.

Her debut film Frida - with the heart in hand won the 1992 Amanda Award for best film (Årets norske spillefilm) at Den norske filmfestivalen (International Norwegian Film Festival) and other prizes at international festivals. Norway also submitted this film to the 64th Academy Awards in 1991 in the “ Best Foreign Language Film ” category ; however, he was not nominated. However, five years later, Sonntagsengel received the nomination for an Oscar in the same category; The film won awards at a number of other international festivals.
