Bernard Ferdinand Popp (born December 6, 1917 in Nada , † June 27, 2014 in San Antonio , Texas ) was auxiliary bishop in San Antonio .

Life

Bernard Ferdinand Popp was ordained a priest on May 1, 1941 after his philosophical and theological training . He worked in the Archdiocese of San Antonio , including 23 years as secretary to Archbishop Robert Emmet Lucey . He was pastor of the parishes of St. Mary Magdalen and St. Paul and founding pastor of the church of Holy Spirit . He was Rector of San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio , Texas and Human Resources Director for the Archdiocese.

Popp was appointed auxiliary bishop in San Antonio and titular bishop of Capsus on June 3, 1983 by Pope John Paul II . The Archbishop of San Antonio, Patrick Fernández Flores , ordained him episcopal on July 25th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were John Louis Morkovsky , Bishop of Galveston-Houston , and Hugo Mark Gerbermann MM , Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus in San Antonio.

On March 23, 1993, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation. He continued to work as a vicar in the parish of St. Benedict . Since 2003 he lived in the Casa de Padres .
