Bernard Lédéa Ouédraogo

Bernard Lédéa Ouédraogo (* 1930 in Gourcy , Upper Volta , today Burkina Faso ; † October 25, 2017 in Ouagadougou ) was a teacher, activist and politician from the West African state of Burkina Faso.

Life

At the age of 20, Ouédraogo became the head of a school. Soon he turned to agriculture to support farmers and village communities. In order to make this work more effective, he analyzed the traditional village structures of the Mossi and their ways of thinking and living, and recognized that the naam groups of village youth, due to their structure and objectives, could represent the basis for further development. In 1967 he founded a nationwide Naam movement (fédération nationale des groupements Naam FNGN) , which currently comprises around 600,000 people and represents agricultural development support on the basis of self-help . Preserving traditional structures and values, avoiding discrimination and pooling local forces are reasons for the success of the Naam groups.

After studying in France and completing his doctorate at the Sorbonne in Paris , Ouédraogo founded the 6S (Se servir de la Saison sèche en savanne et au Sahel) association in 1977 together with Bernard Lecomte , which focuses on improving technical know-how and providing information between farmers, government officials and development aid organizations.

Ouédraogo is also president of the radio station La Voix du paysan , which cooperates with the Naam groups and provides information and education for the rural population. In 1995 Ouédraogo was elected mayor of Ouahigouya and in 2003 he was a member of the National Assembly for the ruling CDP party .

At the end of 2006, the CDP reprimanded Ouédraogo for allegedly calling for support for the Alliance pour la Démocratie et la Fédération - Rassemblement Démocratique Africain (ADF-RDA) party. Ouédraogo then announced that he would no longer run in the 2007 parliamentary elections. Internal disputes between Bernard Lédéa Ouédraogo, MP Tasséré Ouédraogo and Salif Diallo , the Burkinabe Minister of Agriculture, were the cause of the party's crisis in the northern region .
