Bernd Benedix

Bernd Benedix (born February 27, 1943 ; † March 31, 2013 ) was a German sculptor . He lived in the Palatinate town of Edenkoben .

life and work

Bernd Benedix was born in the former GDR in 1943. He studied at the Burg Giebichenstein art college in Halle. At the beginning of the 1970s, he managed to escape from the former GDR under adventurous circumstances. The painter and graphic artist Hubert Gems created the city ​​history fountain in Schifferstadt with Bernd Benedix in his Speyer studio. The piece of jewelery was cast in bronze in Remchingen -Nöttingen in four parts . The fountain weighs around a ton, its diameter is five meters, its height 1.70 meters. The model of the fountain was presented on October 30, 1981. In 1982 the fountain was officially installed.

In 1983 Benedix was awarded the Palatinate Prize for Fine Arts .

Bernd Benedix died on March 31, 2013 at the age of 70. An obituary describes him as follows: "He defied all the hectic pace of that time with a decidedly stoic strength of will".
