Bernd Finke

Bernd Finke (born April 22, 1963 in Duisburg ) is a German diplomat . He has been ambassador to El Salvador since 2016 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Finke studied political science , constitutional law , international law and modern history from 1983 to 1989 and graduated in 1989 with a master's degree .

Finke then joined the Foreign Service in 1990 and, after two years of preparatory service and the career test for the higher foreign service, was initially employed at the Consulate General in New York City between 1992 and 1995 and then from 1995 to 1998 at the headquarters of the Foreign Office . After further assignments between 1998 and 2001 at the Consulate General in Saint Petersburg and from 2001 to 2004 at the Embassy in Italy , he was employed as Deputy Head of Unit in the Foreign Office between 2004 and 2006 .

After a one-year secondment between 2006 and 2007 to the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), Finke worked again at the embassy in Italy between 2007 and 2009 before he was head of division in the Foreign Office from 2009 to 2012.

In 2007 he was ordained permanent deacon in the diocese of Münster.

In 2012 Finke became ambassador to Zambia, succeeding Frank Meyke , who in turn became ambassador to Nepal . In 2016 he became ambassador to El Salvador.
