Heinrich Haupt (diplomat)

Heinrich Haupt (born July 2, 1954 in Koblenz ) is a German diplomat and ambassador to El Salvador from 2012 to 2016 .

Life

After attending schools in Germany and the USA , Haupt completed his military service in the German Armed Forces between 1973 and 1975 and became a reserve officer . In 1975 he began studying law at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and later at the University of Geneva , which he completed in 1980 with the first state examination in law. After the following legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Koblenz , he passed the second state examination in 1984.

He then joined the Foreign Service in 1984 and, after completing his training as an attaché and passing the career test for the higher civil service in 1986, first worked as a consultant for international civil law at the headquarters of the Foreign Office and from 1987 to 1990 at the embassy in the SFR Yugoslavia as a consultant for human rights, legal and consular issues. After serving as Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Nicaragua between 1990 and 1992 , he returned to the Federal Foreign Office, where he was Advisor for Central America until 1994 , before temporarily becoming Political Advisor to the Head of the EU Observer Mission in the former Yugoslavia in 1994.

In 1995 he became head of the press department at the embassy in Spain and was then deputy head of the division for conventional arms control and disarmament in the Foreign Office from 1997 to 2001 . After serving as head of the OSCE mission in Kazakhstan with the rank of ambassador between 2001 and 2002 , he worked at the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations in New York City between 2002 and 2005 as the counter-terrorism officer.

After a temporary job as head of the branch office of the Embassy in Indonesia in Aceh , where he was also the coordinator of humanitarian aid for the victims of the tsunami of December 26, 2004 , he was deputy head of the post-tsunami aid team between 2005 and 2006 Foreign Office in Berlin . From 2006 to 2008, Haupt was head of the Department for Conventional Arms Control and Disarmament in the Federal Foreign Office and, until 2012, he was envoy to the Permanent Mission to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg .

In July 2012, the main as the successor to the retired entered Christian Stocks Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Republic of El Salvador .
