Christian Stocks

Christian Stocks (born May 6, 1947 in Preetz ) is a German diplomat . Most recently he was ambassador to El Salvador from 2009 to 2012 .

biography

After graduating from high school in 1966 and serving at the Federal Border Police , he studied political science , history , public law and art history at the University of Kiel from 1968 . There he became a member of the Corps Holsatia in 1968 . He later switched to the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , to the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and to the Sorbonne . In the meantime, he was on study visits at Harvard University , the University of Essex and the University of Michigan . In 1976 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD .

In 1977 he joined the diplomatic service and, after completing his training as an attaché in 1979, was initially employed as a consultant in the Foreign Office in Bonn and then from 1979 to 1982 as a cultural and protocol officer at the embassy in Spain . After working in the Federal President's Office from 1982 to 1985 as a speechwriter for Federal Presidents Karl Carstens and Richard von Weizsäcker , he was permanent representative of the Consul General and economic consultant at the Consulate General in Mumbai .

From 1987 to 1990 he was employed as Counselor and Deputy Head of Political Affairs at the Embassy in the United Kingdom . After his return to Germany, he was head of advanced training at the Federal Foreign Office's training center and then from 1991 to 1995 foreign policy advisor for a parliamentary group in the Bundestag .

Afterwards he was head of the political department of the embassy in Spain and from 2000 to 2005 chief of protocol of the state of Berlin and head of the department for protocol and foreign affairs in the Senate Chancellery of the state of Berlin . He was then Consul General in Los Angeles between 2005 and 2009 .

2009 Stocks was to succeed Jürgen Steinkrüger ambassador to El Salvador and held this position until his entry into the retirement on 30 June 2012. successor as ambassador then was the former ambassador to the Permanent Mission of the euro Europe in Strasbourg , Heinrich Haupt , the handed over his credentials to the Alsatian Foreign Minister Hugo Martínez on July 17, 2012 .

Stocks has been dealing with the history of Schleswig-Holstein for decades .
