Jost Ludwig Dietz
Jost Ludwig Dietz ( Latin: Jodocus Ludovicus Decius , Polish: Justus Ludwik Decjusz ; * around 1485 in Weißenburg, today: Wissembourg , Département Bas-Rhin , France ; † 1545 in Krakow ) was a Krakow diplomat from Alsace , Geldmann, secretary of the king Sigismund the Elder , later his advisor and royal mint administrator.
At first he was a favorite, secretary and employee of Jakub Boner , the royal banker and administrator of the salt mines in Wieliczka and Bochnia . Thanks to his talents and abilities, he soon became influential and made personal acquaintances with Martin Luther and Erasmus von Rotterdam, among others .
In 1528 he bought a plot of land in the vicinity of Kraków, with the village of Wola Chełmska, and commissioned the Italian architects to build a villa in the Italian style. The villa, completed in 1535, became a meeting place for many celebrities of its time. The village was renamed after the name of the landowner " Wola Justowska ".
The villa, called " Willa Decjusza ", is now used by the society of the same name ( Stowarzyszenie Willa Decjusza ), whose members include important people from Poland.
Jost Ludwig Dietz wrote a Latin work in three volumes under the title De vetustatibus Polonorum ("On the Antiquities of Poland"). Based on invented or falsified sources, he described a long list of nonexistent Sarmatian kings, mythical ancestors of the Poles.
