Bernd Hinz (born July 20, 1947 in Cologne ) is a German expellee politician (non-party), museum founder and publicist .

Life

Hinz grew up as the child of an East Prussian father and a mother from the Rhineland in Cologne and graduated from the Schiller-Gymnasium in Cologne in 1968 . He studied law, French and history at the Universities of Cologne and Regensburg . He passed the first state examination in 1977 in Cologne and the second state examination in 1980 in Düsseldorf . He then worked as the head of legal and personnel administration in a medium-sized company. Then he moved to the legal office of the city of Mönchengladbach as legal counsel . Until his retirement in 2016, he was the chief city law director and official head of the legal office and head ofAnti-corruption agency . Hinz has been married since 1982 and now lives in Hürth .

Public offices

Hinz has been a member of the district committee and district council of the East Prussian district community Prussian Holland since 1969, the community of Germans who fled from the historic East Prussian district of Prussian Holland or who still live there today. From 1971 to 1980 he served as deputy district chairman, since 1980 as home district representative (chairman) for Prussian Holland. Hinz acquired a historic aristocratic palace Hinterm Klosterhof from the city of Itzehoe , the godfather city of East Prussia from Prussian Holland, renovated it and expanded it into the House of Homeland , the museum of the district community. The Haus der Heimat takes part in the city's central cultural events, offers temporary exhibitions, organizes readings and is a member of the Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg Museum Association . As district representative, Bernd Hinz has sustainably expanded relations with the city of Pasłęk , the historic Prussian Holland, and with the Elbing District. Among other things, he founded the equal partnership of the district community with the city of Paslek (1998) and the district of Elbing (2003). The renovation of two historic city gates and part of the city wall of Paslek go back to his work - in 2001, as a result of his work, he was given honorary citizenship of the city.

From 1986 to 2005 Hinz was a member of the federal board of the Landsmannschaft Ostpreußen (LO), from 1992 as deputy spokesman. In 2000 he founded the German-Polish Local Political Congress, at which German home district representatives discuss local and European issues in order to achieve rapprochement on a political level. In 2005 there was a falling out with the spokesman for East Prussia, Wilhelm von Gottberg , as well as a majority in the East Prussian state representation, the highest decision-making body of the LO, about the future-oriented policy of the Republic of Poland . Hinz resigned as the LO's deputy spokesman and transferred the German-Polish Congress of Local Politics to the German-Polish Working Group on Local Political Partnership (AKP), which he, the Allenstein District Administrator Adam Sierzputowski and the journalist Bernhard Knapstein founded in October 2005. Under Interior Minister Wolfgang Schäuble , the promotion of the AKP Congress was introduced as an important contribution to German-Polish understanding.

Hinz has also been chairman of the AKP since 2005 and has been a member of the German-Polish committee of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) since 2012 . Since 2018 he has also been working on the committee for interregional cooperation of the German-Polish government commission. The AKP strives to bring together German and Polish district administrators and mayors who maintain or strive for partnership relationships, to intensify the exchange of experiences, to strengthen partnership work and to involve both the German minority in Poland and dialogue-oriented representatives of East German homeland districts as bridge builders. Notwithstanding the involvement of representatives of the expellees, Polish diplomats in the Federal Republic and German diplomats in the Republic of Poland also take part in the AKP's annual local political congresses.

In the Association of Expellees (BdV) he was a member of the executive committee from 1994 to 2006 and was responsible for relations with the Republic of Poland. From 2000 to 2004 he was also a member of the Advisory Board for Displaced Persons of the Federal Ministry of the Interior.

In the Humanitarian Grand Priory Europe of the Order of Lazarus, Hinz, who was the initiator of the establishment of eight humanitarian welfare stations in the former southern East Prussia, is a Chevalier (knight) and on the board is Prior (commanding officer).
