Bernd Sunday

Bernd Sonntag (born September 29, 1963 ) is a German table tennis player . In 1987 he won the German championship in doubles.

Career

Sunday began his career in the TTC 1950 Holzwickede club. Later he joined the TTC Grünweiß Bad Hamm . As a teenager he achieved his first successes at the German championships, in which he reached the final in the youth doubles three times in a row from 1979 to 1981 (1979 and 1980 with Dirk Koss, 1981 with Frank Kapelle). In 1981 he also came second in mixed with Annette Schönmann. At the international Austrian youth championships he won with the German team. In the same year he took part in the European Youth Championship in Topolcany.

He played in the Bundesliga with the men's team from Hamm until 1984 , when he moved to Spvg Steinhagen .

With Altena he was champion in the second Bundesliga in the 1991/92 season and rose to the 1st BL. Sunday achieved his greatest success at the National German Championships in Berlin in 1987. Here he and Carsten Matthias won the German championship in doubles ahead of Wilfried Lieck / Manfred Nieswand .

In 2000 he ended his career as a competitive athlete and returned to his hometown club TTC 1950 Holzwickede in the association league.

At the German Championships for senior citizens over 40, he won in 2004 in singles and in 2005 in mixed with Maria Beltermann.
