Bernhard Banas

Bernhard Banas (* 1966 in Munich ) is a molecular biologist and doctor, particularly in transplant medicine . He is the head of the Transplant Center at the University Hospital Regensburg (UKR) and was President of the German Transplantation Society (DTG) from 2016 to October 2019 .

Live and act

Banas studied medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and then worked at the Medical Polyclinic of the University of Munich from 1993 to 2003. There he gained experience as an internist, nephrologist, transplant specialist and health economist (MBA).

In 2003 he moved to the Clinic and Polyclinic for Internal Medicine II of the Regensburg University Hospital as an internist and nephrologist and gained international experience through research stays as an Invited Scientist in Seattle , Oxford and Boston . Since 2008, Banas has been head of the Regensburg Transplant Center and, since 2013, has also been head of nephrology at the Caritas St. Josef Hospital .

His scientific focus is on the biology of renal cells and tissue, inflammatory kidney diseases, kidney transplants and other clinical studies, which are also funded by the German Research Foundation.

Banas supports Federal Minister Jens Spahn's plan for organ donation.
