Friedrich Karl Freiherr von Fürstenberg (born August 17, 1730 ; † November 19, 1788 in Münster ) was canon in Münster, Paderborn and Hildesheim.

Life

Origin and family

Friedrich Karl was the son of Christian Franz Dietrich von Furstenberg and his wife Maria Antonetta Josepha von Galen (former collegiate lady in Nottuln and daughter of Wilhelm Goswin Anton von Galen ) and came from the noble family von Furstenberg , one of the oldest and most important of Westphalia . Numerous well-known personalities from church and state have emerged from the family line. One of the most important representatives of the family was the Prince-Bishop Ferdinand von Fürstenberg. Friedrich Karl had eight siblings, four sisters and four brothers, including Franz (1729–1810, Minister and Vicar General), Clemens Lothar (1725–1791, Erbdrost) and Franz Egon (1702–1761, Vicar General).

Act

From 1746 to 1749 Friedrich Karl studied in Cologne and then in Würzburg , Salzburg and Rome . In 1747, after his brother Clemens Lothar's resignation , he received a cathedral canonical in Paderborn . He received a cathedral praise from Münster in 1755 after his uncle Hugo Franz resigned . The cathedral chapter refused to approve. So the prebende fell back to the turnar Clemens August von Plettenberg, who then transferred it in valid form to Friedrich Karl. After the renunciation in favor of Canon Franz Arnold von der Asseburg on November 24, 1759, Friedrich Karl received another prebende on June 23, 1762 through papal approval, which his brother Franz Egon had owned. His appointment as assessor of the cathedral winery fell on November 2, 1782. In 1786 he was appointed canon in Hildesheim , and after only one year Friedrich Karl renounced the prebend. He was a subdeacon and was buried in Münster Cathedral.

He supported his brother politically. He did not seek higher offices himself. He lacked the necessary skills and interest. Instead, he led a quiet life and dedicated himself to breeding horses.
