Bernhard Rudolf Förster (born April 18, 1840 in Schellenberg near Leubsdorf , † March 8, 1904 in Dresden ) was a German mining engineer and Saxon ministerial official.

Life

Born as the son of the court director in Augustusburg, Friedrich August Förster and his wife Eugenie geb. Liebmann, Bernhard Förster studied at the Bergakademie Freiberg . In 1858 he became a member of the Corps Franconia Freiberg . After completing his studies, he worked in the Saxon coal mining industry. In 1871 he became the director of the Zauckerode Royal Coal Works . On April 1, 1886, he was appointed as an unskilled worker in the Saxon Ministry of Finance, which was responsible for mining in the Kingdom of Saxony. At the same time he was given the position of senior director at the Zauckerode Royal Coal Works. In 1891 he was promoted to Chief Finance Councilor. On June 1, 1898, Förster was awarded the title of Secret Mountain Council by King Albert and he took on the role of Lecturing Council in the Royal Ministry of Finance. At the same time he handed over the management of the Royal Coal Works to his successor Georgi . On October 1, 1903, Förster retired. He died at the age of 63 on March 8, 1904 in Dresden and was buried in the Old Annenfriedhof .

Förster was largely responsible for the introduction of electricity in the mine in Saxony. Through his efforts and in cooperation with Siemens & Halske , the world's first electric mine railway was built and further developed in Zauckerode in 1882 . Previously, he had already supported Otto Lilienthal in the development and testing of the cutting machine , also in Zauckerode. The closure of no longer viable Saxon ore mines was carried out by him. He was chairman of the Knappschaftsberufsgenossenschaft.

Bernhard Förster was married to Dorothea Küttner. The miner Richard Foerster was their son.
