Bernhard Fraling

Bernhard Fraling (born May 11, 1929 in Nordwalde ; † May 21, 2013 in Münster ) was a German Catholic clergyman and moral theologian at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg .

Live and act

After his ordination on March 16, 1957, he was initially a chaplain in Marl . Two years later he was a repetiteur at the Collegium Borromaeum Münster seminary . In 1968 he was appointed to the reign of the seminary. From 1971 Fraling was professor for moral theology and ethics at the theological faculty in Paderborn .

Professor in Würzburg

In 1980 he was offered the chair of moral theology at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Würzburg . During this time he worked on individual scientific studies, particularly in the field of theology of spirituality . Fraling was involved in the creation of the Catholic Adult Catechism of the German Bishops and was an advisor to the Faith Commission of the German Bishops' Conference . He played a leading role in an interdisciplinary working group assigned to the World Church Commission of the Bishops' Conference, which scientifically accompanies the universal church activities of the German Church. For the third edition of the Lexicon for Theology and Church , he was a specialist advisor for spirituality, ascetics and mysticism . While teaching in Würzburg , he was also a pastor of the St. Afra Curate in Maidbronn , Markt Rimpar . He was also involved in the diocesan council of Catholics . From 1991 to 1993 he was dean of the Catholic Theological Faculty. He retired on October 1, 1996.

In 1996, Bishop Paul-Werner Scheele presented the theologian with the Liborius Wagner plaque .

Volunteering

Bernhard Fraling was President of the Rotary Club of Würzburg in 1986/87 .
