Bernhard Heinrich von Wolff

Bernhard Heinrich von Wolff (born July 7, 1814 in Alt-Damerow ( Saatzig district ), † March 17, 1891 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and most recently chief of the general staff of the 1st Army Corps .

Life

origin

His parents were Heinrich Wilhelm Leopold von Wolff (* May 17, 1785; † November 7, 1868) and his wife Dorothea Henriette Ernestine von Schwichow (* 1786; † January 7, 1837). His father was major a. D. and lastly Commander of the Fusilier Battalion of the 32nd Infantry Regiment . His sister Louise (born November 25, 1811 † Oct. 9, 1871) was the commander of the 18th Infantry Regiment to Colonel August von Wangenheim married († May 3, 1859).

Career

He received his education at the grammar school in Erfurt. After graduating, he joined the 2nd Infantry Regiment as a musketeer on May 11, 1831 . There he was appointed non-commissioned officer on August 24, 1831 and on November 19, 1831 portepeefähnrich. On May 22, 1833, he was made redundant second lieutenant and on February 13, 1834 in the budget. In 1841 he was appointed regimental adjutant, and on October 14, 1847, he became adjutant of the 3rd Landwehr Brigade. Promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on May 11, 1848, on May 4, 1852 he was now adjutant of the 5th Landwehr Brigade. There he was appointed captain on June 22, 1852 and transferred to the adjutantage on October 12, 1852, where he was adjutant at the General Command of the V Army Corps . He was transferred to the General Staff of the V Army Corps on June 18, 1853 and to the General Staff of the II Army Corps on May 25, 1854 . Already on October 30, 1855 he became major in the general staff of the 16th division and on December 11, 1855 director of the divisional schools of the 15th and 16th divisions, on September 17, 1858 he was released from this position again.

On July 1, 1860, he joined the General Staff as a lieutenant colonel and on September 14, 1860, he became chief of the general staff of the 1st Army Corps. There he was promoted to colonel on October 18, 1861. On January 18, 1863 he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 3rd Class with Ribbon , on December 31, 1864, the Order of the Crown, 3rd Class, and on April 29, 1865, the Russian Order of St. Anne, 2nd Class . On January 4, 1866, he retired as major general with a pension. To mobilize for the German war he was brought back again and installed as deputy head of department in the General Staff.

He died unmarried on March 17, 1891 in Berlin.
