Bernhard Heinrich von der Hude (clergyman, 1731)
Bernhard Heinrich von der Hude , also briefly H (e) inrich von der Hude (born March 10, 1731 in Lübeck , † August 5, 1795 ibid) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman, chief pastor at St. Marien zu Lübeck and senior of the Spiritual Ministry .
Life
Bernhard Heinrich von der Hude was the son of the senior pastor Bernhard Heinrich von der Hude (1681–1750). After visiting the Katharineum in Lübeck , he studied Protestant theology , first three years at the University of Wittenberg , then two years at the University of Helmstedt . In Helmstedt he was a student of Johann Benedikt Carpzov IV. Following his studies, he went on a trip to the Netherlands in 1755 . His description of this trip was later included in his collection of short travelogues by Johann III Bernoulli .
On March 20, 1757 he was appointed the youngest preacher at St. Marien zu Lübeck. On May 18, 1775 he became the main pastor of St. Marien, and on May 22, 1788 senior of the Lübeck church. In 1780 he was accepted into the Hamburg Freemason Lodge Emanuel . Later he was a member of the Lübeck Lodge Zur Weltkugel .
Von der Hude was still fully committed to Lutheran Orthodoxy and occasionally contradicted the superintendent Johann Adolph Schinmeier , who he himself introduced in 1779 , a staunch advocate of the Enlightenment and rationalism and celebrated preacher of the Enlightenment . Nevertheless, von der Hude supported the introduction of the new hymn book.
He was married twice. His first wife died in childbed. With his second wife Maria Elisabeth, geb. Woldt, he had the son Bernhard Heinrich von der Hude (1768-1828), who was added to him in November 1794 as a special college and in 1800 was his successor as senior pastor.
An epitaph was set for him in the Marienkirche, which contained a portrait painted by Friedrich Carl Gröger and hung on the south side of the Marientiden chapel of the Marienkirche; it burned in 1942 during the air raid on Lübeck .
