Bernhard M. Hämmerli (born December 31, 1958 in Wettingen ) is a Swiss computer scientist specializing in communication, networks and information security . He is a specialist in the protection of critical infrastructures in the European Union . He teaches internationally, as a professor at both Lucerne University and Gjøvik University . From 2008 to 2012 he was editor of the IEEE Computer Society . Since 2012 he has headed the ICT Security platform of the Swiss Academy of Technical Sciences . Hämmerli has been Head of the Information & Cyber ​​Security course at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences since 2018 .

Life

Hämmerli studied electrical engineering at the ETH Zurich and received his doctorate in 1988. He worked for the companies IBM , Swissair , and UBS . Since 1992 he has been teaching as a professor at what is now the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences . Since 2009 he has also been teaching at the Norwegian University of Gjøvik .

Hämmerli is a member of numerous scientific and economic advisory bodies and works for several specialist conferences. He was on the board of the Information Security Society Switzerland (ISSS), as Vice President from 1997 to 2007, then as President until 2009. Hämmerli is also a member of the Societé d'Informaticiens and the IEEE Computer Society , on whose Press Editorial Board he was from 2007 to 2012 worked. From 2006 to 2010 he was on the supervisory board of IT SEC Swiss. Hämmerli is on the supervisory board of the European Homeland Security Association . From 2009 to 2014 he was President of the Swiss Informatics Society (SI). In 2012 he was admitted to the Swiss Academy of Technical Sciences and acts as the head of the ICT Security platform .

Hämmerli is editor of the European Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Newsletter and co-editor of digma , a journal for data law and information security. He has been a member of international teams for FP7 projects on several occasions , including Parsifal on the subject of Protection and Trust in Financial Infrastructures (protection and trust in infrastructures in the financial sector).

Since the autumn semester of 2018, Hämmerli has been the head of the Information & Cyber ​​Security course at the Lucerne School of Computer Science.

In a report on Swiss radio and television on the subject of data protection at Google, he was incorrectly referred to as Roger Hämmerli.

In the summer of 2017, Bernhard M. Hämmerli attended the SRKR Engineering College, where he was incorrectly referred to as Bernhard M Hamarily and Bernhard M Hamarili. In addition, the Institute of Lucerne University of Applied Sciences was named Lucini University Applied Science of Switzerland.
