Bernhard Niehues (entrepreneur)

Bernhard Niehues (born April 14, 1868 in Münster ; † December 29, 1950 in Nordhorn ) was a German entrepreneur and founder and long-time owner of the textile company Niehues & Dütting .

Life

Johann Bernard Theodor Niehues was born on April 14, 1868 in Münster as the son of the historian Bernhard Niehues and his wife Maria, née Maria. Crone born. He was Roman Catholics and married on September 25, 1900 in Feldhausen Maria nee Küster (1879–1962), who was the daughter of the timber wholesaler Anton Küster. The marriage had five children:

  • Maria (Mia) Niehues (1901–1989), married to Consul General and IG Farben manager Wilhelm Rudolf Mann , then with Hans Bronner (Munich)
  • Louise (Lulu) Niehues (1903–1981), married to Hermann Paas.
  • Hedwig (Heti) Niehues (1907–1986), married to Hans Denk (Berlin).
  • Bernhard Niehues (1909–1984), married to Sonja Esser (Düsseldorf).
  • Erika Niehues (1911–1990), married to Heinrich Greven (Cologne).

Niehues did a commercial apprenticeship, then worked at the Kock weaving mill in Steinfurt-Borghorst and then became a trainee at the textile company Ludwig Povel & Co. in Nordhorn. After a long stay in England, he founded the textile company Niehues & Dütting (N&D) in 1897 together with the textile merchant Friedrich Dütting (1859–1925) from Osnabrück. After Dütting's death, Niehues was the sole owner of the company. In 1928 the five-story spinning mill building with three corner towers in Nordhorn ( NINO building construction ) by the industrial architect↔ Philipp Jakob Manz from Stuttgart was built . Bernhard Niehues died on December 29, 1950 at the age of 82 in Nordhorn. At that time the company had 5,000 employees. After his death in 1959, the company was renamed NINO GmbH & Co. Bernhard Niehues was buried in the North Catholic Cemetery in Nordhorn on Deegfelder Weg.

Bernhard Niehues was made an honorary citizen of the city of Nordhorn on August 31, 1950. Bernhard-Niehues-Straße in Nordhorn was named after him.
