The Enoki- class ( Japanese 榎 型 駆 逐 艦 , Enoki-gata kuchikukan ) was a class of six destroyers of the Imperial Japanese Navy that was built during the First World War and was in service until the 1930s.
history
The Enoki- class was an improved version of the Momo- class with a reinforced bow construction and increased propulsion power, resulting in an increase in displacement of 15 tons. Six units were approved in the financial year 1916 and the construction contracts were awarded to the four naval shipyards in Maizuru , Sasebo , Kure and Yokosuka , which laid the boats on keel from October 1917 and completed them by April 1918.
Conversion to minesweeper
Two boats, the Enoki and Nara , were converted into minesweepers and put back into service on June 1, 1930 as minesweepers (Sōkaitei) No. 10 and No. 9 . During the conversion, the armament was reduced to two 12 cm guns and the anti-aircraft defense consisted of two 7.7 mm type 92 machine guns .

technical description
hull
The hull of an Enoki- class destroyer was 85.8 meters long, 7.7 meters wide and had a draft of 2.3 meters with an operational displacement of 1,118 tons .
drive
It was driven by two Curtis turbines with four Kampon steam boilers with mixed firing (heavy oil and coal), with which a total output of 17,500 hp (12,871 kW ) was achieved. The power was delivered to two shafts with one screw each . The top speed was 31.5 knots (58 km / h ). 215 tons of heavy fuel oil and 100 tons of coal could be bunkered, which led to a maximum driving distance of 2,400 nautical miles (4,445 km) at 15 knots.
Crew The crew had a strength of 110 men.
Armament
When it was commissioned, the armament consisted of three 12 cm type 41 guns with a caliber length of 40. These center pivot mounts without shields were set up in the midship line - one in front of the bridge structure, one between the two funnels and one behind the aft deckhouse. There were two 6.5 mm Type 3 machine guns for air defense and two sets of triple torpedo tubes in 53.3 cm caliber as torpedo armament.
