Bernhard Cathrinus Pauss (born April 6, 1839 in Tangen , Drammen , † November 9, 1907 in Christiania ) ( pronunciation : [ bæɳhaɖ pæʉs ]) was a Norwegian theologian, educator and author.

He was the owner of the Nissen girls 'school from 1872 to 1903 and head of the Nissen teachers' seminar, the first higher education for women in Norway. He was also chairman of the Norwegian Santal Mission from 1887 to 1907 and editor of Santalen magazine . He was the author of several school books, a. a. the well-known reading book series Læsebog i Modersmaalet .

He belonged to the Paus patrician family and was the son of the ship owner Nicolai Nissen Pauss from Drammen , and was married to Augusta Thoresen, a daughter of the timber merchant Hans Thoresen, in his first marriage. In his second marriage he was married to Anna Henriette Wegner, a daughter of the industrialist Benjamin Wegner and Henriette Seyler . His second wife was a granddaughter of the Hamburg banker Ludwig Erdwin Seyler . He was the father of the surgeon and president of the Norwegian Red Cross Nikolai Nissen Paus , the lawyer and economic functionary George Wegner Paus and the industrialist Augustin Paus , and the grandfather of the surgeon and grand master of the Norwegian Masonic Order Bernhard (Cathrinus) Paus .
