Bernhard Sälzer (born September 4, 1940 in Berlin ; † December 18, 1993 ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and a member of the Hessian state parliament and the European Parliament .

education and profession

After graduating from high school in 1960 in Grünberg, Bernhard Sälzer studied civil engineering at the TH Darmstadt until 1967 . After graduating as a graduate engineer , he worked as a lecturer and engineer.

politics

Bernhard Sälzer was a member of the CDU and was active there in various board positions. He was a member and cultural policy spokesman for the state executive committee of the CDU Hessen.

From 1968 to 1976 Sälzer was a city council representative in Darmstadt and led the CDU parliamentary group. He then served as Mayor of Marburg from 1976 to 1979 . From December 1, 1970 to August 2, 1976 he was a member of the Hessian state parliament.

From July 17, 1979 until his death in 1993 he was a member of the European Parliament. There he was Deputy Chairman of the EPP Group and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Energy, Research and Technology.

death

Bernhard Sälzer died on December 18, 1993 near Wiesbaden in a fatal car accident. The accident was investigated for the possibility of an assassination attempt. However, after the forensic investigation, the federal prosecutor's office could not find any tampering with the car.
