Bernhard Schott
Bernhard Schott (born August 9, 1748 in Eltville am Rhein , † April 26, 1809 at the Sandhof near Heidesheim am Rhein ) was a German musician and music publisher.
Life
Bernhard Peter Schott, son of a baker, studied in Mainz and obtained a master's degree in 1769 . He received training as a clarinetist and had been selling music in Mainz since 1770. Schott was later a clarinetist in a Strasbourg military band and in 1780, privileged as court music engraver by the elector, founded a music publishing company in Mainz, which later became world-famous as B. Schott's Sons . In 1806 he bought the Sandhof to build a paper mill here. Schott was the first music publisher to use lithography for sheet music printing in 1799 .
