from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bernhard zur Lippe (* around 1290 ; † before 1365 ) was Mr. von Rheda from the House of Lippe from 1344 to 1364 .

Bernhard was born around 1290 as the son of Count Simon I and Adelheid von Waldeck . His oldest brother was also called Bernhard and was Bishop of Paderborn .

After the death of his father in 1344, the county was divided. Bernhard received the area around Rheda and Lippstadt . His brother Otto got the area around Lemgo .

When Bernhard died around 1365, his widow Richarda first handed over his inheritance to the husband of their eldest daughter, Otto VI. from Tecklenburg . In 1366 she revoked the surrender and appointed her nephew Simon III. to the lip to the heir. However, Otto V. refused to surrender the inheritance, which triggered a decades-long struggle that ultimately ended in Tecklenburg's favor.
