Heinrich II. (* Around 1317, † around 1384, called Heinrich der Eiserne ) was Count of Holstein-Rendsburg and pledge master of southern Schleswig . He ruled together with his younger brother, Count Nikolaus († 1397).

He was the older son of Count Gerhard III. and Sofia von Werle , the daughter of Nikolaus von Werle . Heinrich was a mercenary leader operating across Europe and a typical representative of the late entrenchment who fought in Italy, Russia, Estonia and France. He was in English and Swedish service. To secure their rule, he and his brother had the city of Flensburg fortified around 1345 . Walls, gates and towers were built to create the closed city fortifications of Flensburg . In 1367 he became the fleet commander of the Cologne Confederation of the Hanseatic League and conquered Copenhagen in 1368. Count Heinrich II and his brother Nikolaus vigorously asserted themselves in Holstein and vigorously defended their claims in Schleswig and Denmark as well as against the North Frisians.

Heinrich was married twice:

  1. Mechthild († 1365), daughter of Bernhard V, noble lord zur Lippe
  2. 1366 Ingeborg († approx. 1398), daughter of Albrecht II, Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin
