Life

Origin and family

Bernhard von Büren came from the Westphalian noble family Büren , which was at times one of the most powerful in the Diocese of Paderborn and whose members mostly professed Calvinism during the Reformation . The dignitaries of the house of Buren belonged almost exclusively to the Catholic faith on. Bernhard was Protestant and the son of the nobleman Bernhard von Büren and his wife Alveradis Wrede zu Mecklinghausen .

Career and work

Bernhard was admitted to the cathedral chapter in 1552 and emancipated that same year. After the death of the cathedral dean Georg von Hatzfeld, a dispute arose between him and the canon Bernhard Schmising about a fiefdom part of the cathedral. Although the bishop had consecrated him as a subdeacon , the cathedral chapter decided in favor of Bernhard Schmising. The conflict should be settled by the Elector Gebhard , Duke Heinrich von Braunschweig and the Munster bishop . On July 27, 1562 , the Imperial Court of Justice in Speyer ordered that initially nothing should be done against Bernhard. Finally, on November 29, 1563, he became the owner of the Holthausen Cathedral Prospect . After Raban von Hörde had been elected provost , Bernhard received the vice-nomination from the bishop on November 14, 1569 . This made him the deputy of the sovereign. In 1574 he received the Lembeck obedience , and the following year the Archdiaconate of Ascheberg . On April 3, 1577 he declared his membership of the junior party , which was co-founded by the canon Konrad von Westerholt and which was close to the Protestant faith . This grouping played an important role in the choice of the bishop.

Bernhard renounced or died after February 21, 1580.
