Bernhard von Knorr (born August 16, 1776 in Vienna ; † November 20, 1838 there ) was an Austrian civil servant, musician and librarian.

Life

Bernhard, Freiherr von Knorr , was a son of Freiherr Josef von Knorr (1746–1789), captain and Lower Austrian district administrator of the knighthood, from his marriage to Maria Theresia Edlen von Kees (1748–1827). His younger brother was the State Councilor Josef von Knorr (1782-1839).

He entered the civil service after studying law and became an intern on April 25, 1800 at the district office of the Ober dem Manhartsberg district . As early as August 19, 1802 he was promoted to titular court war designer. Due to family considerations, he left the civil service on December 2, 1807, but at his request he was resumed on May 23, 1817 and appointed court draftsman, and on October 23, 1818 the real court draftsman of the general court chamber. On February 21, 1824 he was appointed real court secretary. His application for promotion to the court commissioner council from September 1832 seems to have been rejected, since the decree of March 23, 1834 only speaks of the approval of the higher salary of the court secretary of 2000 guilders.

Bernhard von Knorr was a virtuoso flautist. He owned a very extensive and valuable musical collection that is now lost. He was responsible for setting up the archive and library of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna and worked there as a librarian. Böckh also describes him as a music writer. Of his compositions only "VIII Variations pour 2 flûtes" (Vienna 1799, Artaria ) appeared in print .

The marriage with Marie Caballini von Ehrenburg (1794-1856), which was concluded in 1810, had five children, four daughters and one son. The eldest daughter Marie Freiin von Knorr (December 10, 1810 - July 1, 1856) married Eduard von Vivenot, the brother of the surgeon Rudolph von Vivenot , on November 16, 1833 in the Dominican Church . Children from this marriage were Eduard von Vivenot (1835–1901), General Ernst von Vivenot (1837–1919) and Consul General Franz von Vivenot (1845–1938). The son Franz Freiherr von Knorr (1815 - April 20, 1857) also entered the civil service. Since he died childless, the family of the Barons von Knorr died out with him in the male line.
