Bernie Plain

Bernie Plain (actually Bernard John Plain; born December 3, 1946 ) is a former British long-distance runner .

At the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970 he was starting eleventh over 10,000 m for Wales and came 13th over 5000 m .

In 1971 he won the Welsh Marathon Championships , and in 1972 he finished seventh in the Maxol Marathon. In 1973 he finished 33rd at the World Cross Country Championships in Waregem for Wales and finished fourth at the Boston Marathon .

In 1974 he was seventh in the marathon and eleventh over 10,000 m at the British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch . In the Polytechnic Marathon he came second and in the marathon of the European Athletics Championships in Rome fourth.

At the Cross Country World Cup in 1975 in Rabat, he came in 35th. In 1976 he finished fifth in the Englscihen Marathon Championships and won the Polytechnic Marathon.

In 1977 he came in 60th place at the 1977 World Cross Country Championships in Düsseldorf and won the Welsh Marathon Championships.

He was twice Welsh champion in the 10,000 m (1969, 1970) as well as in the marathon (1971, 1977) and once each in the 5000 m (1969) and in the cross-country run (1976).
