Bernt Rhotert

Bernt Rhotert (* 1934 in Breslau , today Wrocław / Poland) is a German television dramaturge , screenwriter and writer .

Life

Rhotert grew up in Stuttgart after 1945 and studied theater studies , art history and German studies with Heinz Kindermann and Artur Kutscher at the universities of Vienna and Munich . In 1961 he received his doctorate with a thesis on German television play. He then worked in Frankfurt am Main as a television dramaturge producing, most recently as head of the TV drama and feature film division at Hessischer Rundfunk for ARD.

As a producer, writer, editor and co-writer, he wrote and edited a number of screenplays for popular television films. Mention should be made of the series Die Buddenbrooks based on Thomas Mann (1979), a television version of Schiller's Don Carlos and, with Horst Pillau as co-author of the multi-part Die Wilsheimer, in collaboration with director Franz Peter Wirth . Rhotert also worked for the Tatort series from 1985 to 1999 and was the producer of Polizeiruf 110: Feuertod in 1997 .

Since 1980 he has also been a lecturer for theater, film and television studies at the University of Frankfurt .

Since then he has also emerged as the author of four novels.

With Heinar Kipphardt , Gerhard Klingenberg and Helmut Krapp , he received the first television award from the "German Academy of Performing Arts" in 1964 for developing the television play In the J. Robert Oppenheimer case .

Bernt Rhotert lives in Stuttgart.
