Berschweiler is a district of Marpingen . It is the southernmost of the three valley settlements in the Alsbach valley. From a geological point of view, the place belongs to the Blies - Prims hill country, which is part of the North Palatinate Uplands . The place has around 1100 inhabitants and an area of 6.84 km².
history
The place Berschweiler was first mentioned in a document in 1281, but an earlier settlement can be assumed. Finds from Roman times, the proximity to the Roman road Tholey - Schwarzenacker and the discovery of parts of a battle ax from the early Stone Age suggest this. Since the Reformation was introduced in 1575, the majority of the population has been Protestant.
On January 1, 1974, Berschweiler, which until then had been an independent municipality in the Ottweiler district , was incorporated into the Marpingen municipality.
