In his artistic career, Bock has always worked across genres. In the last 30 years his occupation ranged from expressive painting, experimental film and experimental music to landscapes and classic surreal feature films. While earlier work groups are still characterized by geometrically strict architectural forms and lonely people in anonymous "living sarcophagi", Bock has been dealing with a state of uncertainty in his paintings and films since 2010: we are at the end of modernity and at the beginning of a new one Romance? No longer lost people in anonymous houses can be seen, but wild nature in large format, instead of gray architecture, bright green colors, brightly colored natural spectacles shine. For Bock, the subject of “nature” is more virulent than ever - not only as a reference to the discussion on climate change or the deforestation of the rainforest, but also as a reference to the aggressive use of the last human refuge. The artistically portrayed nature becomes - as in the first romanticism - a place of longing, a symbol for another world.

In his films, Bock works with actors such as Robert Seethaler , Jens Roth , Arno Frisch , Christine Hoppe , Ingo Huelsmann , Guntbert Warns and Martin Brauer, as well as with the musician Sven Helbig . In his cinematic work, Bock has been interlacing his paintings directly with the level of action for several years.

As a side project, Bock has also appeared as the bassist of the Berlin post-rock band ZURICAT since 2012 , whose albums are published in the art edition liane by Heinz Havemeister .

Quotes

About the fall of the Berlin Wall after he moved to West Berlin in August 1989:

“The wall came up and I have to honestly say that it was a kind of liberation for me too. I was very impressed by the people I met there. Don't think about tomorrow about this openness, about this 'just living in the day'. That was the opposite of this western view of life of thinking in cycles and saying: Now I have to do this, now I have to do it, then I can do it, and so on. "

About his work as a filmmaker:

“The main reason I do this with the film is that it's the only chance I get my interest in narration . Because for me, with the invention of film, painting no longer has the task of telling me a story. "

About his artistic positions on people in modern times:

“There could be a feeling of being lost, but I want it to exude a sense of security. Modernism as a fairy tale. That's exactly what I'm working on. These are fairy tales about modernity. "
