Berthold Heckscher

Berthold Heckscher (born March 17, 1917 in Saalfeld ; † February 21, 1996 in Deggendorf ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Heckscher attended elementary and vocational school in Deggendorf and then passed the assistant examination in the hairdressing trade. From 1937 until the end of the Second World War , he was used in the military and military service on all fronts as a medic. In 1950 he moved into the Deggendorf city council for the first time, and in 1956 he was appointed third mayor. On January 14, 1962, he was elected Lord Mayor of Deggendorf, and in the same year he also entered the district assembly of Lower Bavaria . He was a member of this until 1966. He was then a member of the state parliament for another four years . He held the office of Lord Mayor until 1983. During his tenure, during which the city was incorporated into the Deggendorf district, he implemented a number of projects to improve the infrastructure.

The Berthold Heckscher Prize and the Berthold Heckscher Stadium in Deggendorf were named after him.
