history

There is still no information about the early history of Baierbrunn Castle, it was probably built in the 12th century. In 1140 it was mentioned indirectly in the name of Erchambolt de Paigerbrunn , possibly he was also the builder. The Lords of Baierbrunn were bailiffs of the Schäftlarn monastery . At the beginning of the 13th century, the plant was transferred to the Wittelsbach family . In 1238 the castle was destroyed in a dispute between the Wittelsbach family and the Counts of Andechs and then rebuilt. After the Baierbrunn lower nobility family died out in 1322 or 1333 with Konrad IV von Baierbrunn , Baierbrunn Castle passed to the Lords of Preysing-Wolnzach . Konrad's widow married Rudolf von Preysing zu Wolnzach at that time. In 1399 it was sold by Rudolf's son Konrad von Preysing to Duke Ludwig im Bart von Ingolstadt . In 1421 the castle was captured by the Munich vigilante in the course of the Ingolstadt feud and then demolished within 14 days.

In 1899 the last remains of the castle complex, a well shaft and remnants of the curtain wall were removed by overbuilding, including a hotel. In 1960 more new buildings took place on the castle site. The site is on private property.

Today the site is registered as a ground monument D-1-7934-0082 "Castle stables of the high and late Middle Ages ('Baierbrunn Castle')" by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation .

description

The castle location on a Nagelfluh rock is protected on its east side by the steep drop to the Isar, in the north-west it is protected by the Geudergraben , a dry valley . To the south-west to a high plateau, the main castle , located at the tip of the spur and secured by a ditch , had two outer castles with each section ditch . The area of the outer castles, no longer recognizable today due to overbuilding, falls over steps to the lower main castle on the Konradshöhe, today the Burgstrasse runs through the neck ditch .
