Life

After studying political science at the University of Bamberg and the London School of Economics , he joined the political editors of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as a volunteer in 1989. At the beginning of the 1990s he was posted to Prague as a correspondent and later to Vienna . From there he reported on Central and Southeastern European countries.

Kohler is considered a representative of conservative positions. In the refugee crisis in Germany from 2015 , Kohler sharply criticized the policies of Chancellor Angela Merkel in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung .

In the Ukraine crisis , he sees Russian President Vladimir Putin as the aggressor who, with his neo-imperialist policy, primarily wants to secure his own regime, and he advocates a policy of tightened sanctions and military deterrence against him.

Kohler was a participant in the Munich Security Conference in 2009 and 2010.
